MEP Breakfast Debate with Ismail Ertug

On Thursday 5 December 2019 a breakfast debate is organised by Ismail Ertug (S&D, Germany), Member of the European Parliament cooperation with EAPA under the header: A European Green Deal – Asphalt road industry’s contributions to climate-neutrality and preservation of Europe’s natural environment.

Roads are needed today and will be needed in the future for pedestrians, bikes and vehicles; to bring people to work, to school, on a leave or to bring food and goods.

These road transports should be done in a climate-neutral and sustainable way, whereas the road infrastructure plays an important role. Therefore, the European Asphalt Pavement Association (EAPA) supports “A European Green Deal” provided by the new head of European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

The European asphalt industry already provides and innovates on

Reducing

  • CO2-emissions during roads construction and maintenance through the use of clean technologies, such as low-temperature asphalt (e.g. Warm and Cold Mix Asphalt), bio-binders and bio-fuels.
  • Fuel consumption and CO2-emissions of vehicles during the use-phase of an asphalt pavement by preserving an adequate state of maintenance of road surfaces and by using tailor made solutions to reduce the rolling resistance.
  • Noise with special road surface textures and material structures of low noise pavements to take care of the environment and the citizen’s health.

Preserving Europe’s natural environment

  • Through a sustainable use of resources during roads construction and maintenance by re-using 100% of asphalt material from former asphalt roads.

This and more will be presented and discussed in a debate hosted by MEP Ismail Ertug on 5 December 2019 in the European Parliament.
