EAPA Symposium 2017

Date and location of the EAPA Symposium 2017

The 10th EAPA Symposium will be held on 1 June 2017 in La Maison des Travaux Publics, 3 rue de Berri, 75008 Paris, France, close to the Champs Elysées, as a full day event with a networking dinner in the evening before.

 

Purpose of the EAPA Symposium

Under the heading “Sustainability, Innovation and Communication in the Asphalt Industry” EAPA will:

-       inform the participants about the latest news of the asphalt sector concerning current and future topics

-       provide an excellent opportunity for networking, information exchange and discussions

 

Target Audience

The target audience of the EAPA Symposium is EAPA members, members of EAPA members, asphalt & bitumen industry, road administration and academia.

13.30: Session 3 “Making asphalt roads and the asphalt industry more attractive” - interactive session with Katrina Sichel

  • This will be an interactive session and draw upon the experience of different stakeholders to develop, together, communication outputs that are accessible and meaningful for all actors in the sector. Structured by the moderator, participants will work in groups to design a number of communication tools that can be used to address different prioritised audiences via various channels (social media, events, media outreach, audio visual etc.). The session is intended to be engaging, focused, practical and useful - and, crucially, draw upon the ideas and expertise of participants.
  • A summary of this session will be provided afterwards on the EAPA website and on Social Media.

Registration and Symposium fee

The registration fee for this full day event is 290 Euro including French VAT, the entrance to Symposium and Exhibition area, 2 coffee breaks, lunch on the Symposium day and all Symposium documents.

The cost for the networking dinner will be 40 Euro per person including beverages and French VAT. Please register for the Symposium and the Dinner on EAPA’s website http://www.eapa.org/form_reg.php.

Online registrations must be completed before 24 May 2017. You will receive an invoice after your registration for the Symposium and the dinner.

On the day of the Symposium, you will have the possibility to register for participation too by paying the registration fee in cash. No other methods of payment can be accepted.

 

EAPA Symposium dinner

On the evening before the Symposium, on 31 May 2017, a networking dinner will be held at the restaurant “La Fermette Marbeuf”, 5 rue Marbeuf, 75008 Paris starting at 19:00 hours. Spouses and colleagues are welcome. Registrations for the dinner must be completed before 24 May 2017 on EAPA’s website http://www.eapa.org/form_reg.php together with the registration for the Symposium.

 

Symposium language

All presentations will be given in English.

In the surroundings of the venue, next to the Champs Elysées, many opportunities for different hotels in various categories and prices exist. We propose to book your accommodation according to your preferred category at one of the many booking portals on the internet.

Next to the EAPA Symposium there will be an Exhibition.

EAPA Symposium 2015

EAPA held the 9th EAPA Symposium on 3 June 2015 in Istanbul, Turkey. Over 100 participants attended from the European asphalt and bitumen industry, administration and academia.

Under the theme “News and solutions from the European asphalt paving industry”, the symposium informed its delegates about the latest news from the asphalt sector and provided an excellent opportunity for networking, exchange and discussions.

The programme for the day included an opening session with a keynote speaker. In the early morning after the welcome by the President of the European Asphalt Pavement Association, Ayberk Özcan, Ismail Ertug, Member of the European Parliament, Vice-president of the Transport and Tourism TRAN Committee and speaker on behalf of the Social Democrats of the European Parliament, gave a keynote about “Transport in European Union”. This speech was followed by two presentations, “Social media to inform the uninformed about asphalt pavements” by Juan-José Potti and, ASEFMA - Spanish Association of Asphalt Producers, Spain and “Addressing asphalt advantages – The Eurasphalt communication plan” by Carsten Karcher, EAPA, Belgium.

The morning programme continued with a session on warm mix asphalt:

"Why WMA – Warm Mix Asphalt a key solution of our industry” by Egbert Beuving and Jean Paul Michaut, EAPA, Brussels,

“Global successful applications of WMA” by Bjarne Bo Jansen, NCC, Denmark,

“How to stimulate the use of WMA” by Eivind Olaf Andersen, Veidekke, Norway.

In the afternoon, two more sessions were completed with a session focused on “News from Brussels and the EAPA Committees”:

“European research activities in the field of asphalt pavements” by Rudi Bull-Wasser, BASt - Federal Highway Research Institute, Germany

“Environmental Product Declarations – EPDs: now and tomorrow” by Malcolm Simms, Mineral Products Association, UK

“Bituminous binders for paving – how to characterise and specify bitumen” by Bernard Eckmann, Eurovia, France.

In the last session of the day, a very interesting overview of “Trends and news in the European asphalt industry” was presented:

“Road Maintenance and Road Asset Management” by Luut van Hoogevest, Grontmij Nederland B.V., Netherlands

“Asphalt recycling from 0 to 100% - Recycling practice in European Asphalt Paving Industry” by André Täube, DAV - German Asphalt Pavement Association, Germany

“Paving with emulsions - Cold Mixes, micro surfacing and surface dressings” by Jean-Paul Michaut, Colas, France.

The last speaker of the day, André Molenaar, Emeritus Professor of TU Delft, made a very entertaining address with the title “A life of asphalt”.

EAPA director Dr. Carsten Karcher moderated the sessions.

One of EAPA’s main goals of this Symposium was to exchange information. Therefore, enough time was provided for exchanging information and discussions during the sessions and during the breaks.

EAPA is sure that it has provided an interesting programme for the attendees. The feedback EAPA received showed this and EAPA thinks that the participants have enjoyed the Symposium, gained new information as well as new input for their everyday work and that they had good discussions with the colleagues.

During the Symposium EAPA members were able to present their companies and products in a small exhibition to the participants. Eight companies used this opportunity.

EAPA Associate Members MeadWestVaco, Europe sponsored this year’s EAPA Symposium.

For attendees that were interested a tour was organised the following day to the construction site of the 3rd Bosporus Bridge.

On the evening before the Symposium EAPA organised a dinner for the participants and their spouses in a nice restaurant at the Bosporus, which was very much appreciated.

EAPA Symposium 2014

On 12 June 2014 EAPA held its 8th EAPA Symposium in the building of the French National Association for Public Works “La Maison des Travaux Publics” 3, rue de Berri, 75008 Paris, France.

Under the heading “ Challenges and opportunities for the European asphalt paving industry in the 21th century” 115 participants from all over Europe attended the EAPA Symposium. There were even colleagues from South Africa, USA, Japan and Australia.

New elected EAPA President Ayberk Özcan opened the Symposium and welcomed the participants and the speakers of the day. The presentations started with the Session “From constructing new roads to preventive maintenance”. Here Yann Lefeuvre of Colas spoke about “Maintenance and reducing costs”. He was followed by Lotte Josephsen of Lemminkäinen A/S who showed us “Contracts that really work”. After the lunch “Paving durable roads” was addressed in a second session. Here Norbert Simmleit of TPA informed the audience about “Process Automated Asphalt Paving - Quality from asphalt plant to paver”. Egbert Beuving spoke on behalf of the EAPA Asphalt Plant- and Equipment Manufacturers’ Group of EAPA and he showed that there is a lot of information technology available, which we could use tomorrow. After a coffee break, in the session “Workforce challenges – Keeping health and quality assured”, Katrin Hunstock from EUROVIA showed that we have to take care of our workforce. We have to educate, motivate and train them so they can do an excellent job. Mike Acott of the National Asphalt Pavement Association of the USA (NAPA) addressed the health aspects for workers. Mike Acott also gave a second presentation about the Go-To-Market strategy of his association to promote the advantages of asphalt to different stakeholders and the public in the USA.

The sessions were moderated by the EAPA staff namely Mr. Egbert Beuving the Secretary General and Dr. Carsten Karcher the Director.

One of EAPA’s main goals of this Symposium was to exchange information. Therefore there was enough time for exchanging information and discussions during the sessions and also during the breaks.

EAPA is sure that it has provided an interesting programme for the attendees. The feedback EAPA got showed this and EAPA thinks that the participants have enjoyed the Symposium, gained new information as well as new input for their everyday work and that they had good discussions with the colleagues.

It was the first time in the EAPA Symposium history that EAPA members were able to present their companies and products in a small exhibition to the participants. Six companies used this opportunity.

The EAPA Symposium was sponsored by the EAPA Associate Members: VIALIT from Austria, BENNINGHOVEN from Germany, and MeadWestVaco, Europe.

EAPA’s General Council Assembly decided to have a yearly EAPA Symposium in a slightly extended version besides the years when the Eurasphalt & Eurobitume Congress will take place. So the next 9th EAPA Symposium will be held on the 4 June 2015 in Istanbul, Turkey. EAPA will keep you informed on the programme and the content, so please save this date!
